Central Virginia residents love to go outside. With Belvedere’s convenient location on the Rivanna River, on weekends, you can head to the river’s banks to enjoy kayaking, canoeing, rafting, paddle boarding, fishing and more. Or hit the trail with walking, running or biking on the connected John Warner Parkway, nearby Saunders-Monticello trail on Monticello grounds, or the Appalachian trail running through the Shenandoah National Park, a short drive away. Whichever you choose, you’re sure to get fresh air and plenty of scenic views.
Another popular destination is nearby McIntire Park, which features magnificent views of the mountains, winding streams and lush woodlands. Park facilities include: lighted sports fields, a nine-hole sand green golf course, a playground, nature trails and picnic shelters. Currently under construction is The Brooks Family YMCA in McIntire Park that will offer aquatics, fitness and a wide range of programs in the new family recreation center.
Other noteworthy area activities include vineyard tours, steeplechase racing, orchard outings and visits to historic sites. In fact, three of our country’s Founding Fathers have nearby estates offering tours and a peek into our nation’s early years. Thomas Jefferson’s Monticello and James Monroe’s Ash Lawn-Highland plantations are outside Charlottesville in Albemarle County, and James Madison’s Montpelier is just 30 miles away.
